Near the core of America's current era of mass incarceration is a crisis of recidivism

Within 5 years of their release dates, 77% of previously incarcerated individuals have been rearrested, and more than half have returned to jail.

College Way brings the promise of college to students currently incarcerated at Rikers Island in New York City

For many, the path to a fulfilling life runs through college. College Way encourages currently incarcerated individuals to imagine themselves as successful college students, offers classes delivered by college professors, and provides guidance and tools for making college education a reality.

Strengths Sessions

Strengths classes push students to develop the goal setting, time management, mediation, and writing skills that are essential to success in college.

Seminar Sessions

Seminar classes are led by university professors who deliver college courses spanning an array of disciplines. Professors deliver college-format classes covering their subjects' most important and interesting material. These classes highlight academic possibilities and draw students into college-level discourse.
